G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)
I heard about this syndrome some time ago. My son
told me that a lot of musicians suffer from that disease. I must say that this
disease could be found anywhere also in photography. Two or three times a year
new equipment is thrown into the market and people really think they could make
better images with new gear. Also a lot of the new camera features are weird too like
Fuji’s pet recognition system (http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/pet/index.html).
Have to look if our cat could be photographed or not …
Step back and think about G.A.S for a while. Do you
think you are getting a better driver if you buy a new car? Will you run faster
with a new sweatshirt? Think about the famous Anselm Adams and his beautiful
landscape photos. Do you think he stayed at home to wait for a new camera
model, so he could make better images? For sure, he did not. He did over 40000
images in his whole life so he had no time to “wait”.
Summary: only those image are good images that you
take, whatever camera you use. New or Old.
Below you will find an image that I shot some years
ago with a really bad (from todays technical standpoint) Olympus UZ camera.
Enjoy!
